Drug Uses: Ultram is used to relieve moderately severe to moderate pain. It may also be used to treat pain caused by chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. It may also be prescribed to treat pain after surgery. Ultram works by lowering the brain's perception and response to pain. It also decreases the size or magnitude of the pain signal that is passed from one nerve to another. This prescription drug medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your physician or pharmacist for more information.
How Taken: Ultram is a tablet and is taken orally. It usually is taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed. It can be taken with or without food. It is important to follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and do ask your physician or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Be certain that Ultram is taken exactly as directed. Ultram may be habit-forming. Do not take a bigger dose; take it more often, or for a longer duration than your physician tells you to.
Warnings/Precautions: Before taking Ultram, ask your physician if you have liver disease, kidney disease, or a history of drug or alcohol dependence. The most frequently reported occurrence were in the central nervous system gastrointestinal system (Stomatitis, Gastrointestinal bleeding, Hepatitis, Liver failure) and (Migraine, Speech disorders). Inform your physician if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: diarrhea, vomiting, upset stomach, blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, and headache. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your physician immediately: rapid heartbeat, seizures, changes in urination, difficulty breathing, numbness or tingling of the hands and feet, redness, swelling, and itching of the face.

Overdose: Seek immediate emergency medical attention. Symptoms of a Ultram overdose include shallow, weak breathing; difficulty breathing; and seizures.
